Kaia at the Folies-Bergéré
2022
Oil on Canvas
Kaia Burke, whose mother happens to be the American activist Tamara Burke, is the subject here who communicates with Manet’s ‘Bar at the Folies-Bergéré. By placing Kaia, the non-binary filmmaker, in Manet’s setting from 1883, I am evaluating our growth as a society. Where we were and what kind of progress toward equality we have made.
